Goodbye Porirua
Kia ora whanau!!! Hope you have all had a great week. This week has been very busy which is always good on the mission.
Transfer news! So I'm getting transferred to Wellington, which is literally the zone right next to Porirua and my flat is like a 10 minute drive away. So I'm not really moving that far away. But ya I'm going to be in downtown Wellington so it'll be interesting to work in a big city. I don't really like cities that much, I would much rather prefer serving in small towns. But, I'm sure I'll grow to love it. I'm pretty sad that I have to leave Porirua, I really wanted to stay for 1 more. I grew so close to the ward here, the work was going so good, we have heaps of people lined up for baptism here soon. It's honestly been my favorite area by far. Porirua turned into my home so it's been hard to say goodbye. But, I know I'm needed in Wellington. My new companion is Elder Toutai, he is also from Tonga. I have had Tongan companions for the last 6 months. He seems like a stud though so I'm super excited.
This week we were just really busy with service and saying goodbye to people. Everyday we did at least 2 hours of service. It's summer here right now so everybody wants the missionaries to mow their lawn. Because of all the service we didn't get too much time proselyting. Also, our friend Jonah that got baptized last month just received the priesthood this Sunday. It was so cool to be a part of that. We also got caught up at one of our members funerals this week. We called her aunty Lil. She was super cool. There was a big tangi for her at the marae. Got to see them send her off with a Ka Mate haka. So cool to witness.
This week while we were out proselyting, we met this guy named Israel. We were visiting one of the ladies we taught in the past and he was at her house this time. We had a good chat with him and shared with him about the Book of Mormon. He seemed really interested to read it and check it out. We tried to see if we could come back another time but he said that he doesn't know a time or place we could meet. So we gave him our number and he told us he'd call us. That happens a lot on the mission, they usually never call or text you back haha. So, we went on about our day and kept visiting people. While we were visiting another one of our friends I realized I gave Israel (the guy we taught about the Book of Mormon) the wrong phone number. Ya I know that's pretty stupid of me, but it happens. Anyways, me and my companion felt prompted to go back and give him the right number. So that's what we did. We went back, and as we pull up to the house we see Israel on his front porch reading the Book of Mormon. That was actually such a cool miracle. We then gave him the right phone number and continued to chat. He told us that he wants to come closer to God and he was wondering if we could help him do so. This experience made me realize how special the Book of Mormon is. If you want to come closer to God, there is no better place to do that than the Book of Mormon. So here’s my plug to all go read the Book of Mormon and “Come Follow Me" this week.
Alright that's it from me. I'll catch you guys next week.
Aroha Elder Larson
said goodbye to the Salmon family. They sent me off with some jerseys since I would always come to chapel ball. Gonna miss that family!
