What are you boys doing in my hood?
Kia ora yall!! Hope you're doing good. Hope everything is just dandy and sweet. Anyways, I'm doing pretty good right now. Just chilling and loving life. It is week 7 of the 8 week transfer so we'll see what happens next week. Anything could happen. With how much I've moved around in my mission I definitely would not be surprised if they just booted me out. But, we'll see.
Here's a quick run down on the work right now. So, this week we had ALL of our lessons get cancelled or rescheduled. That was pretty frustrating. So, me and my soa just did heaps of knocking. We knocked all day everyday hoping to find some more people to teach. We had a pretty good week and we were able to find some more people to teach. All of our friends (besides Niko) are not progressing. So, we just decided to try and go find some more people to teach. Anyways, we will keep working on our friends, hopefully we see some progression soon.
Alright some cool things from the week. I'm sure some of you have heard about that LDS guy who won American Idol. His name is Iam Tongi. Pretty cool. But something that is even cooler is that a lady in our ward is his cousin. Pretty crazy, we saw that her maiden name was Tongi so we asked her and it's true. The Church is so close here in the islands. Everybody knows each other or is related to each other. That was awesome to learn about. Also, i guess I have to explain the title of my email. So, the other day we were walking down the street to get to one of our appointments. One thing about walking everywhere is that something interesting is always happening. Anyways, on Sunday me and my comp were walking and we notice this guy walking towards us in a very odd manner. He starts to approach us and I'm thinking that he's probably just some super cool Maori fella that loves to chat. Keep in mind that he's a pretty big dude. He comes up and says "what are you guys doing in my hood?". I was confused cuz there isn't really hood anywhere in New Zealand, at least not like hoods in America. But we'd had some weird occurrences in this same spot of town previously so I wasn't too caught off guard. Then, he like walks up to me and gets close to my face. At this point I'm kinda concerned that he might throw some hands or something. But, then he looks down at my badge and then backs up and starts talking about how him and his family had been to the temple up in Hamilton. He switched up so fast it was crazy. I was so confused, but relieved. Then, we had a nice conversation after. Finally, to finish it off he gave me a very awkward hug and walked away. So there you go, that's my story for the week.
Alright, I love you guys and hope you guys have a good week. Just know that I'm loving everything about the mission right now. It truly has been the best thing for me. To anybody that is reading this email right now that might be on the fence of serving a mission because it seems hard or scary, or even boring, I just want to say that although it has been hard, scary, and even boring sometimes, it has been the greatest thing for me. It has helped me grow character, confidence, my testimony, my work ethic, and honestly everything about me. It has changed me and will continue to change me for the better. I promise you will love it. I haven't been this happy in a long time and I know it's just going to get better because I am dedicating my whole life right now to the Savior. He can change you and he will change you into the man or woman he needs you to be if you just let him.
